John William Lomax | Has Been Arrested

John William Lomax, 21 has been arrested by University of Connecticut police. Lomax was charged with the murder of football player Jasper Howard and conspiracy to commit assault. The murder occurred during a fight on the campus on October 18, 2009.

In a press conference this afternoon, police said that Lomax is being held on $2 million bail. Police stated that two other arrests have been made in relation to the right. Hakim Muhammad, 20, was charged with conspiracy to commit assault and was being held on $750,000 bail. James Todd, 21, faces charges for allegedly pulling a fire alarm in the student union before the fight. Police said that neither Lomax nor Muhammad were students at the University of Connecticut. They police have not found the murder weapon.

Lomax’s lawyer, Deron Freeman said Lomax “had nothing whatsoever to do with the stabbing” and was actually trying to break up the fight.

Lomax and Muhammad will appear in court on Wednesday.

The victim, Jasper Howard, 20, died of a single stab wound to the abdomen, and was with friends when the fight broke out. His funeral was held Monday in his home town of Miami.
